We are coming close to one of the favourite times of the year for many students – Halloween! We will be celebrating Halloween at Second Street on Monday, October 31. We know that many students are looking forward to dressing up so I would like to offer some guidelines for costumes at school. We want to make sure that it is a day of enjoyment for all students kindergarten through grade 7 so we want to keep our costumes family friendly. Please refrain from costumes with “blood and gore” as it can be disturbing to our younger students and a reminder that there are no “weapons” allowed at all.
We also want to remind everyone about the importance of not using other people’s culture as a costume. Please refer to the attachment Here with information about “Culture is not a costume.” We are looking forward to seeing the costume of everyone who wants to dress up on Monday.
Our grade 7 leadership students will be working with Mr. Bell to create a “Haunted House” that most classes will be visiting on Monday morning. This is always a big hit with the students.
We are also excited to see the return of the “annual” Second Street Fireworks display. The fireworks will start at 8:15 on Monday, October 31. We hope everyone will gather on the sidewalk around our field to be a part of this event. It has been a long few years since we last had them. A big thanks goes out to Shane who is our pyrotechnics master and to Ms. Beavil for coordinating this event.
